Awareness is the Practice: Yoga, Metaphysics and the Power of Deliberate Creation

There is a moment in every yoga practice when the body stills, the breath softens, and awareness takes the lead. It might happen in downward dog, or maybe child’s pose. Perhaps it arises in the pause before the next shape. That moment of noticing—subtle, quiet, but incredibly powerful—is the gateway to something much greater than physical movement.

That moment is the practice.

As a long-time yoga teacher and student of metaphysical principles, I’ve come to understand that awareness is not only the foundation of our experience on the mat, but also the foundation of how we create our lives. Yoga, at its core, invites us to wake up. And the same is true of the metaphysical teachings that inform the quantum nature of reality. Both point to the same truth: life is happening through us, not to us.

The bridge between these worlds? Awareness.

The Pause Between the Shapes

When I first began practicing yoga, I was drawn to the movement. I loved how my body felt after a good flow, how my breath synced with motion, and how I could leave class feeling reset. But over time, something deeper began to reveal itself. It was in the pauses—in savasana, in transitions, in breath—that I started to really notice my thoughts.

And not just notice them. Question them.

Am I in alignment with what I want? Am I rehearsing old limitations? Am I worrying about something I don’t want?

These moments of pause became doorways to transformation.

This is what yoga teaches us. Not just to move, but to notice. To become aware of the inner landscape so we can choose how we respond to life. In yogic philosophy, this is called svadhyaya — self-study. And it is as important as the shapes we make with our body.

The Observer Effect and Quantum Creation

In the realm of quantum physics, there is a concept known as the observer effect. It tells us that the act of observing something actually changes the outcome. In experiments, particles exist in a state of possibility—waves of potential—until they are observed. Once observed, they collapse into a single outcome, a particle of matter.

This has massive implications.

It means that what we place our attention on becomes our experience.

And what is attention but focused awareness?

When we marry this with the teachings of yoga, we begin to see that awareness is not just passive. It’s creative. Our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs are constantly informing the field of potential around us. The more we become aware of them, the more we can begin to consciously shift them.

If we’re not aware, we’re likely creating by default—from old patterns, unconscious fears, or inherited limitations. But when we pause, when we notice, when we choose, we shift from default to deliberate.

The Practice of Deliberate Creation

So what does this look like in real life? It looks like the moment you catch yourself spiraling into worry and gently bring your awareness back to what you do want. It looks like choosing gratitude over lack, vision over fear, clarity over confusion.

Just like yoga, it’s a practice.

Here are a few guiding questions to help you begin:

  • What am I noticing in my thoughts and feelings right now?

  • Are these thoughts aligned with what I want to experience?

  • Am I focused on what I want, or what I don’t want?

  • What energy would I like to embody today?

  • What is one small shift I can make in this moment?

The more often we ask these questions, the more we build the muscle of awareness. And awareness gives us choice. And choice gives us power.

This is the sacred loop of yoga and deliberate creation. It is not about controlling every outcome, but becoming so intimate with your inner world that you naturally begin to align with the life you want.

Life as the Practice

Life doesn’t happen in the studio. It happens in the morning traffic, in conversations with loved ones, in the pause before responding to a difficult email. It happens in your kitchen, at your job, while waiting in line.

This is where awareness becomes everything.

It’s not about perfection. It’s about presence. Noticing when you’ve veered off course, and gently guiding yourself back. Again and again. Just like you do on the mat.

You don’t need anything outside of yourself. You don’t need more certifications, more answers, or more time. You need you. Your attention. Your willingness to notice. Your awareness.

This is where it all begins.
